Mountains and Streams Retreat Center
The Silent Thunder Order (STO) and Atlanta Soto Zen Center (ASZC) are pleased to announce a Zen retreat in the mountains of far western North Carolina, north of the scenic Ellijay and Blue Ridge areas of Georgia. The location is a 60-acre farm being rebuilt with an eye towards environmental sustainability and long-term retreats. Sansuiji - Mountain Streams - is centrally located to many of our Southeast affiliates and sitting groups. All are invited to join with your sister Sanghas in this lovely setting for the first of many future retreats.
The retreat center is currently a three bedroom 100+ year old house, which is very livable, under renovation. A one-room primitive cabin up the main mountain stream provides additional space, and an ancient but solid barn suggests a great location for a future zendo.
Roshi has toured and approved the site, nourished by three streams flowing from the contiguous Nantahala National Wilderness (called Fires Creek WMA in this location). He feels this is an ideally suited forest retreat location for STO/ASZC.
With regard to sustainability, a 15-20 year permaculture and alternative energy plan is being created which will kick off in the Spring of 2014.
INAUGURAL RETREAT 2013
November is our the first opportunity to inaugurate Sansuiji with a rustic retreat in the arboreal forest, on the side of a mountain, alongside flowing streams.
Depending on the size of the retreat sangha, some or all of us may be sleeping on the floor. We will have warm water, food, shelter, and wood burning stoves for heat.
The address is:
361 Albone Branch Rd Hayesville NC 28904

This is a state road (which shows up on GPS) which is only 1500 feet long, crosses three small streams, and dead ends at the property. We have traversed this road in a VW Jetta, but suggest something with more ground clearance if available. We can also arrange to pick you up in Hayesville if necessary.
What to bring:
Warm clothes; Toiletries; sleeping mat (yoga mat or inflatable mattress), something to sleep under (sleeping bag, or sheets/blankets), and a pillow are particularly appropriate for this venue; see a more comprehensive list for general retreat needs here.
For further information and directions, or to pre-register (by Nov 8th, please), contact Bryan (owner and ASZC BOD member) and copy Roshi at:
The day fee is $50, payments may be made online at http://www.storder.org/admin/retreat-payments
